How Sights on the Spectrum Works

After more than a decade in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis and years of building meaningful relationships within the travel industry through Sights & Suitcases, I began to notice something heartbreaking — so many families navigating autism were choosing not to travel at all. Not because they didn’t want to experience the world, but because the uncertainty, sensory overwhelm, and fear of problem behaviors made it feel impossible. Travel, which should represent joy and connection, instead felt stressful and risky.

Traveling with autism comes with unique challenges that most traditional travel planning simply doesn’t account for.

  • Sensory overload in airports, hotels, and attractions
  • Anxiety from unpredictable schedules and environments
  • Difficulty with transitions and new routines
  • Concerns about safety, food preferences, and behavior

Our Mission

In honor of Autism Awareness Month, I’m incredibly excited to introduce a project very near and dear to my heart; Sights on the Spectrum — a specialized travel program designed to make exploration feel accessible, structured, and supportive for autistic individuals and their families.

This program was created specifically to help families learn how to travel with autism in a way that reduces stress and increases confidence — before you ever leave your home.

How We Make Traveling with Loved Ones on the Spectrum Easier Than Ever

This program blends clinical understanding with personalized travel planning. It’s built on the foundation that preparation reduces anxiety, predictability increases confidence, and thoughtful environmental design can completely transform an experience. Instead of asking families to “push through” overwhelming situations, Sights on the Spectrum adapts travel to meet the unique needs of each individual.

Every detail is intentionally planned to support sensory needs, routines, and comfort — creating a truly autism-friendly vacation experience.

Proper PREPARATION

This Isn’t Just Travel Planning.

Most importantly, this program is not about “managing behavior.” It’s about empowering families with tools, preparation, and confidence so they can create meaningful memories together. It’s about inclusion. It’s about accessibility. It’s about honoring neurodiversity while expanding possibilities.

We don’t expect your child to adapt to travel — we design travel to support your child.

How I Can Help

Autism-Friendly Vacation Planning Services

Through trusted hotel partnerships, I am able to advocate for room placements in quieter areas, provide RBTS willing to travel, coordinate with chefs regarding food preferences and texture sensitivities, arrange for added safety features for elopement risks, and request sensory-considerate accommodations such as sound machines or flexible bedding setups. I assist families in selecting airports with sensory rooms, provide photos and visual schedules for priming, and collaborate directly with a child’s BCBA or support team to ensure continuity of strategies before and during travel. Every itinerary is intentionally paced to allow for regulation, rest, and predictability.
